expect.

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19

As I read this scripture, I think about the power in expectation. Have you ever been through something that shifted your perspective of your future? I believe this may be how the children of Israel felt right before the Lord encouraged them with this word. They had been through exile and seen God move on their behalf before but found themselves in an interesting season. They were far from home and just going with the motions...BUT God sent a word to empower them. He knew they needed a glimpse of His promises to keep moving forward.

After hearing the word of the Lord, they had a decision to make: to remember or to expect. These two words, though very different, have something in common. Both require effort. It’s always good to remember the goodness of God, and if we’re not careful, we’ll find ourselves remembering disappointment and failures, too. In this passage, God challenged the children of Israel to expect greater. Instead of dwelling on their past mistakes and shortcomings, He called them to focus on something new. He knew what he was taking them through would require a fresh perspective that started with Him.

When God calls us to look at the new things He’s doing in us and around us, it’s an opportunity for us to see Him in a new way. We can’t limit our perspective to how God moved in the past because with the new season comes new challenges that only He knows how to get through. So, let’s keep our eyes fixed on Him and expect Him to do the great things He's promised.
