[a gem found for Christmas]

In reading the story of the birth of Jesus (found in Luke 2:1-20), I found a hidden gem that has stuck with me. The story of how Jesus was born is an amazing depiction of the hand of God carefully orchestrating the steps of men and women to fulfill his promises in the Earth. The events leading to the birth of Jesus would cause one to wonder how Mary endured it all. Pregnant, newly married, and required to relocate unexpectedly...All of which took place in such a short time and were completely out of her control.
I don’t know about you, but I have found myself in this same position. A LOT happening, completely out of my control. So how did Mary endure all these things? How could God use her to deliver one of His greatest promises? How could she obey Him and choose to follow Him day after day as she faced judgment and ridicule from her family and those around her?
I believe the answer is in Luke 2:19: “But Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them and pondering them in her heart.” And just like Mary, as we reflect on the goodness of God, we will find the strength to endure.
As you prepare to celebrate Christmas tonight and tomorrow, try to take some time to think of the promises God has shared with you. The doors He’s opened for you this year, the situations He’s carried you through or protected you from. As you reflect on these things, allow them to become treasures, deeply rooted in your heart…“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21).
thank you God for every door you opened for me this year. you are faithful to your word!
